Today's lesson. Check out your builder!!!! Those of us who operate in the best interest of our Clients have nothing to hide. We readily provide our bankers contact information, industry references and references of past Clients. It is important that you know you are dealing with a reputable company. A proven track record of satisfied Clients is important to you. Ask questions. If references didn't expect to answer questions, they wouldn't give their permission to be contacted.
Meet with your builder. It is important there is a certain level of chemistry in a business relationship. Clashing personalities may lead to issues during the project. It is important both sides feel comfortable. You will be spending a lot of time with your builder, regardless of the size of the project, so make sure you can communicate freely and without being intimidated. Please, ask any question that comes to mind. There is no such thing as a stupid question. After all, we are the professionals and have spent decades learning our business.
Take your time. There is no need to rush, especially in large financial matters. Most people spend more time researching a new cell phone than their builder, critical mistake. A good, reputable builder will always demonstrate patience throughout the entire process. Ask your builder to take you on a driving tour of some of the projects they have done. This is a great, informal way to get to know one another. If you have a realtor, arrange for their participation as well.
